Fish and fish preparations: Exports up 7.22% in first quarter

ISLAMABAD:
Exports of fish and fish preparations have witnessed an increase of 7.22% during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, as compared to the corresponding period of last year. Exports under this category were recorded at $63.364 million during July-September fiscal 2012-13, as compared to exports of $59.096 million during July-September fiscal 2011-12, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). In terms of quantity, the exports of fish and fish preparations increased by 11.39% during the period under review. During the month of September 2012, fish exports witnessed an increase of 17.13% and were recorded at $31.422 million in September 2012, against exports of $26.844 million recorded during September 2011. On the other hand, overall food exports from the country decreased by 11.54% during the first quarter of the current fiscal year. Overall food exports were recorded at $878.680 million in the period, against exports of $993.352 million during the same period of the preceding year.
