Demanding Protection: Woman threatens to self immolate

Samina has sought help from PHC chief justice and inspector general of police.

HARIPUR:

A woman has threatened to commit self immolation if she is not granted protection from a man who claims to be her husband.

Samina Noor Elahi, a nurse at a private hospital, told newsmen the Ejaz, who is married and drives a rickshaw for a living, has been harassing her for the last several months. She claims he physically assaulted and stripped her at a public place after she took the matter to the police.

Elahi said that an arbitration committee of the police had earlier summoned Ejaz but he could not provide any proof to substantiate his claims. She claimed that after he assaulted her in public, the police refused to register an FIR against him, so she moved court and got Ejaz arrested under Section 354-A of the PPC.

However, after Ejaz was bailed out two days back, Elahi claims he is stalking her and has sent her threatening messages on her phone. She has sought help from PHC chief justice and inspector general of police and has threatened to set herself alight if she is not granted protection from Ejaz.
