Consumer rights: Shop gets notice for improper stitching

LAHORE: A consumer court issued a notice to a tailor for December 5 in a suit seeking Rs80,000 damages for improper stitching a shalwar qamees that allegedly caused loss of a Rs65,000 mobile phone and Rs15,000. Petitioner Hashim Chaudhry said that on August 12, he gave three suits for stitching to Boots, Shoes and Garments located at Liberty Market and owned by Mahboob Ali. He said Ali returned the suits in a week. He said he wore one of the suits to the Punjab University where his friend Adnan Chaudhry gave him a Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone valued at Rs65,000 and Rs15,000 which he put in the right pocket. He said that on reaching his hostel, he was shocked to realize that the phone and the cash was missing as the pocked had not been stitched properly. He asked the court to direct Ali to pay him Rs80,000. Talking to The Express Tribune, Ali said Chaudhry had apparently concocted the story. He said that he had been in the business for years but never heard such a complaint. He said he would contest the case.
