The Supreme Court had ruled that the election, which brought the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to power for the first time at the centre was rigged, with the main part in this played by the military, the ISI and then-president the late Ghulam Ishaq Khan — in other words, the ‘establishment’.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Ebrahim said that after court’s ruling, a few politicians urged the ECP to carry out proceedings against politicians who were involved in rigging.
Responding to a question Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s dual nationality case, the ECP chief said that the Senate Chairman was supposed to send a reference in the case and that the ECP could only take a decision once it is received.

@Abid P Khan: Well said..........you are a step ahead of me.
What kind of country Pakistan has become, no wonder it is notorious for being called a lawless country, if a person is in violation of the constitution , that person should be prosecuted but the ECP is waiting for a letter from the Senate Chairman. It seems Malik is in violation of the constitution and the Senate Chairman is abetting it. Then what can any one expect from the common people to respect the law and constitution.
this is the need of the hour to learn from the past and look towards the future. All leaders must look to add value to their predecessors instead of creating hurdles and indulging in mud slinging. Let these be settled in the court of people as we can not correct history....
@Mirza Zulfiqar Baig: I agree with you, while many parties, which were part of IJI at that point of time are currently rulling with PPP. Furthermore, the court has just ordered to investigate, it did not deliver a verdict against any party. So lets wait for the investigation.
There are some who cannot be touched no matter what they do or did. This includes generals, their beloved rightwing politicians and some mullahs. Even though it is proven by the independent (according to Sharif and his party) SC that Sharifs benefitted from the illegal money and were in power because of that. However, it is a shame that the perpetrators of worst crimes and treason are all free while we do not stop talking against those who were the actual victims of these crimes. No wonder the common man always votes for the victim and not the tyrants.
@resilient: There were NO elections in 1975. You people first read your history and then comment on any issue.
All cannons are towards PML(N)..Its very strange...
@Parvez: "...Small wonder that the man on the street is a cynic."
Hasn't the man on the street been disenfranchised long long ago?
were 1975 elections free and fair..... Can PPP clarify its position. Not a single political party is fair and pure.
There is no use of ECP it should be disbanded. 2008 elections were heavily rigged but it did not do anything.
1990.;that is events 22 years back
I say get those who distributed;have public trial according to law
..............doing the right thing and doing what is legally right, apparently are two different things. Small wonder that the man on the street is a cynic.
