Raided: Afghan refugee arrested

The FIA claimed to have recovered foreign currency worth Rs1.6 million.

HARIPUR: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials arrested an Afghan refugee on Saturday for running an illegal currency business in the camp area. The FIA claimed to have recovered foreign currency worth Rs1.6 million. Arshad Massod Deputy Superintendent FIA (Hazara Circle) said that a raid was launched on the shop of Abdul Hafeez, son of Asmatullah Afghan. Several foreign currencies were recovered including pound sterling, US dollars, UAE dirhams, Afghani rupees and Pakistani currency worth Rs 1.6 million from the culprit’s possession. According to the area’s DSP, the accused had been running the currency business illegally for the last several months.
