Over 200 students of pharmacy department at Hazara University (HU) have threatened to stage protest and move court if the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan (PCP) did not recognise their department.
At a news conference, the student leaders said a team of PCP visited the department last year and asked the varsity administration to ensure completion of certain pre-requisites, which they did.
But, the students maintained, the council has been delaying the process of accreditation, which was a matter of concern for the students, especially those in the last semester.
If the final year students graduate while the department is still unrecognised by the council, their degree would be “no less than a piece of paper”. They maintained that if the PCP continued to use delaying tactics, they would take to the streets against the council and move court.
Pharmacy Department Dean Abdul Haleem Awan confirmed that his department had not been recognised by the PCP, owing to certain shortcomings in the department. Back then, the PCP had asked them to ensure a well-equipped laboratory, library and faculty among other facilities.
He said that they have now ensure all requirements and that the PCP will visit again after Eidul Azha and issue the recognition. Moreover, he maintained that the students have no reason to protest as the PCP’s visit has already been scheduled and the team would hopefully endorse the efforts of the varsity in meeting the required criteria.
