PESHAWAR:

Family members of the eight kidnapped workers who were working on the Gomal Zam dam project held another protest on Wednesday and demanded that their relatives be safely recovered from the Taliban.

The workers were kidnapped on August 16 when they were going home to DI Khan from Kachori (the dam site), to celebrate Eid. Those kidnapped include engineers, medical and domestic staff, a sanitary worker and an employee of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO).

The protesters held banners and gathered on Sher Shah Suri Road.

“No one is taking interest in the recovery of our dear ones,” said Faisal Akbar, brother of one of the workers, while talking to The Express Tribune. The men have been missing for the last 60 days, he added.

The political administration of South Waziristan held a meeting with the Wazir and Mehsud tribes, but failed to muster their support on the issue.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.

“Salim Khan, the project director of Gomal Zam dam, said to us ‘It is all about the will of God, whether they get released safely or they are killed,’” Akbar said.

One protester said that they have submitted an application with the human rights directorate of the Peshawar High Court as a last resort.
