Power woes: Marble factory owners demand separate feeder
Marble factory owners have demanded of the government to install a separate industrial feeder in Subhan Khwar, Shabqadar Industrial Area, which hosts around 100 marble processing units.
Subkhan Khwar Marbles Association (SKMA) President Janullah said that the industrial units experience up to 15 hours of power outages and frequent interruptions in electricity supply daily, which is affected their business gravely.
He said that since the marble units are provided electricity from the same feeder that supplies power to nearby villages, such as Shara, Dalazak and Paskha, the feeder gets overloaded and malfunctions, causing prolonged interruptions in power supply.
“We pay in hundreds of thousands of rupees in taxes and various power bills but no government department is ready to address our issues,” said Janullah. He said if a new electricity feeder is installed, it will boost production of the marble factories and increase local employment.
SKMA Senior Vice-President Ihsanullah, General Secretary Mian Khairullah, Secretary Information Muhammad Nawaz and Secretary Finance Momin Khan were also present on the occasion.
Khairullah told The Express Tribune that the factory owners are being asked to pay Rs800,000 for the installation of a separate power transformer, adding that the charge is “very unreasonable”.
