PESHAWAR/ JAMRUD:

A Frontier Constabulary (FC) head constable and a Khasadar personnel were gunned down in two separate incidents on Sunday.

FC Head Constable Ayaz Khan was killed by a militant sniper in Khyber Agency, Sunday morning. The security personnel were in the area because police were informed that militants had planted a bomb on Frontier Road to target them. Acting on the information, a contingent of police and FC personnel was sent to the area to attempt to defuse the bomb. They also were attempting to clear bushes from the road as shrubs covering a large portion of both sides of the road and reducing visibility.

As the police found the device, militants who had been hiding opened fire at the police and FC personnel. Reports indicate that the shots were fired from a long distance using snipers. It was in this fire that they killed Ayaz Khan, an FC head constable from Hangu who died on the spot. Police retaliated with gunfire but the militants outnumbered them.

Police then destroyed the explosive device as there was no time to defuse it. Talking to The Express Tribune, DSP Fazal Mula confirmed the death of the FC personnel and said that they initiated a search operation in the area.

Khasadar personnel gunned down

In another incident, a paramilitary personnel was killed by his adversary in Jamrud Bazaar, Khyber Agency on Sunday. Asmatullah Wazir, a political administration official, said that Khasadar personnel Gul Wali was on his way home in the Mullagori tehsil of Jamrud, when the accused Khatir Muhammad opened fire on him, injuring him severely. Muhammad tried to escape but was arrested by other Khasadar personnel. Wali was rushed to Civil Hospital Jamrud where doctors said he died before reaching the hospital.

Wazir said that Wali had recently completed his training in Landikotal to join the levies force and was headed home for a vacation. According to Wazir, during interrogation the accused claimed that the levies official had killed his cousin.
