Horror unfolds at Kh-e-Shamsheer

The cars collided at the intersection of Khayaban-e-Shamsheer and Shujaat.

KARACHI: The son of an FIA deputy director and his friend are in police custody after their vehicle was involved in a horrific accident at the intersection of Khayaban-e-Shamsheer and Khayaban-e-Shujaat in which at least four people were killed and two others were injured.

Darakhshan Investigating Officer SI Amjad Pervez told The Express Tribune that the driver, Saad Ali Khan, is the son of Athar Ali Khan, an FIA deputy director. “He and [his friend] Munir Mengal broke the signal, hit a motorcycle, then a Civic waiting on the other side and spun out of control,” said Pervez. “The people waiting for a bus at the corner were hit as a result.” Four victims are confirmed dead, he added. “We have also received information that one more person is dead.”

Saad was in a Corolla, with license plate number AFN 934. It collided with a Civic. When the cars collided, one of them hit the footpath and the other spun around, injuring the people who were waiting for the bus. The accident happened at 8:18 pm, said the SI, adding that most of the people at the bus stand were domestic helpers.

According to MLO Dr Farhat, three bodies were first taken to Jinnah hospital. The body of the man was left there and the two female victims were taken to Civil hospital. The women were identified as Sabiha and Saima but the man has yet to be identified. Saima, a housewife, is said to be either a resident of Agra Taj Colony or Lyari. Sabiha, according to unconfirmed reports, was an employee at a boutique in Clifton and a resident of Nazimabad. Two children were injured and one of them died later.
