Water management: US to provide $3m for seven facilities

ISLAMABAD: As many as seven watershed management and irrigation facilities are being established with financial assistance worth $3 million provided by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). “Farmers across the country are improving their productivity and livelihood through the US government-funded watershed management programme,” an official of the Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) said. He said the US has been providing financial assistance for the project, under which farmers are being trained on how to effectively manage scare water resources, leading to increased yields and, ultimately, higher incomes. US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Hoagland visited a PARC demonstration site of the Watershed Rehabilitation and Irrigation Improvement programme at Satrameel to interact with farmers and inquire about how the project is improving their daily lives. He congratulated the farmer and said that technologies used at the testing site would be utilised at other places as well to facilitate more farmers.
