To release their accomplices, Taliban and al Qaeda affiliated terrorists have finalised plans to carry out attacks on 12 jails across the country, intelligence agencies have warned jail authorities, police and other law enforcement agencies (LEAs), The Express Tribune has learnt.
Militants are in the process to execute attacks on jails to get their accomplices freed, along the lines of the Bannu jailbreak, according to the intelligence report.
While the preparation in some cases is almost complete, in other cases, militants are acquiring information from inmates through mobile communication, the report says.
Militants have acquired lists of terrorists – with cell, room and barrack numbers – in each of the 12 jails, and details of existing security arrangements in and around the jails, the report adds.
Who’s on the hit list?
The report says that six jails of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including the Haripur, Bannu, DI Khan, Peshawar and Kohat central jails and Sadda jail in Kurram Agency, are on the hit list.
The Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, Kot Lakhpat in Lahore and the Faisalabad and Multan central jails have also been cited as most vulnerable.
Meanwhile, the Karachi and Quetta central jails also face potent threat, according to the report.
Warning to jails
After receiving these reports, a warning letter has been issued by the National Crisis Management Cell of the interior ministry to the provincial home department, provincial police chiefs, inspector general of prisons and provincial heads of other LEAs.
The warning letter states that these jails have appeared in various threat warnings, and inmates in these prisons are still in contact with their associates through cell phones.
The letter suggests reviewing and ramping up existing security arrangements in and around jails.

So transfer them to a jail that isn't on the list and don't advertise it.
This time when the terrorists come to release their prison mates will they be received Qadri style with roses and garlands or are a few bullets also going to be fired ?
Govnt is incompetent and they will not change their ways in any way.
I didn't care when it happened to my neighbors who don't care now for what happens with me.
We the Pakistanies ...
There is dire need of restracturing exist jail system in pakistan. One thing is also note worthy that every one knows thats inmates have easy access to cell phone and many high profile inmates operate while sitting in jails. Jails became secure places for militants. If security agenies couldn't stop cell phones usages then how can they stop any attack from militants?
Mine the walls of these jails like there is no tomorrow.
Prepare for an attack in the wee hours of night, learn from the past mistakes at Kamra. Post plainclothes commandos with most lethal gear, and get ready. Set a "honey trap" let them come to a jail and have these commandos wait for them locked and loaded.
At the first sign of a breech go Indian on them. Shoot them into bits and pieces and then show the obliterated bodies on TV, for their "brothers" to see, understand and learn.
Best thing would be to capture at least a few injured and torture them till they give up their command posts and relevant locations, and give the coordinates to CIA for drone attacks on their buddies.
Rehman malik, keep your post attack statement ready. That,s all your job is.
WOW, still no cell phone jammers in place! I wonder who charges up the cell phones for the inmates? Who pays for their SIM card minutes? Can they order take-away food to be delivered? Just wondering of course!
