Netted finally: Man arrested for posing as army officer

Swindled thousands of rupees from people.

He promised them permanent jobs in the government and women gave him money. It only took Abdul Haq to pose himself as a serving army officer to swindle thousands of rupees from people.

The Aabpara police on Wednesday arrested a suspect who had been involved in several cases of fraud, robbery and burglaries for two years.

His modus operandi was simple. “May I be of any help to you?” he would ask women waiting outside public offices for jobs or complaints.

He would introduce himself as a serving captain of the army. Later, he would ask them for money to get their work done, said a police official.

The Aabpara police, on the complaint of Sadia Yousafzai, arrested the suspect using his cell phone records.

They said he kept changing his location and his victims included residents of Bhara Kahu and sectors G-6, G-7, and F-6.

During the last week, Haq looted at least four women. “He took Rs70,000 from one woman and $500 and gold from others before disappearing,” said the official.

On checking his previous record, the police discovered that Haq had been arrested by the Kohsar police under similar charges in 2010. The police said they have registered a case against him and would produce him before the court for a remand.
