Film screening: PNCA’s new initiative to revive cinema in Pakistan

“Serious efforts are needed to support the film industry," says Syed Noor.

ISLAMABAD:

Majajan, a hit Punjabi film, was screened at the Pakistan National of the Arts here late on Wednesday. The initiative was part of an attempt to revive people’s interest in Pakistani cinema.

Lollywood veteran Syed Noor (director of the film) and actress Saima (member of the cast) were present on the occasion. The film cast also includes Shaan and Madiha Shah.

It was released in January 2006 and is a love story inspired by the life of Baba Bulleh Shah, according to the director.

Speaking on the occasion, Noor said, “Serious efforts are needed to support the film industry. We need bigger budgets and technical assistance if we are to make quality films and bring the audience back to cinema houses,” he said.

PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir said they will screen a Pakistani movie on a monthly basis to help revive interest in Pakistani films.

The step, he added, will also help people get access to entertainment free of charge.
