
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing in the Supreme Court’s Quetta Registry pertaining to the barter of 13 minor girls.
The court had taken suo motu notice of an incident where 13 girls were allegedly bartered for settling a blood fued between tribes in Dera Bugti.
During the hearing, DC Dera Bugti Syed Faisal Shah informed the court that the incident took place in Barkhan and not Dera Bugti. He also said that despite their efforts, no evidence had been found.
Sarfaraz Bugti, the man who claimed the Vani incident happened, said he still claimed it happened to which the chief justice told him to bring those involved to court.
The attorney general told the court that as soon as the girls were located, they would be brought before the court in Islamabad, but since the case could not be confirmed, he prayed for it to be dismissed.
Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said this was not possible since the certification of the case had not yet been confirmed.
Mir Tariq Masoori Bugti, a member of the Balochistan Assembly, is said to have presided over a jirga in the Baikar area of Phelawagh to settle a blood feud between Masoori and Shahani Masoori clans.
The jirga had found the Masooris guilty and ruled that the offended party be given 13 girls in Vani besides a Rs3million fine.
