ISLAMABAD: An on-grid solar power generation system of 178 kilowatts (KW) generation capacity installed at the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has set a precedent for defining procedures and strategy at the national level for on-grid solar power generation. The project is a first-of-its-kind in the country, as excess electricity generated is delivered to the national grid under the Feed-In-Tariff regime. PEC spokesperson Mahmood Rehmani told APP that this system is an effective tool in overcoming the energy shortage, and has great scope with relatively less investment. Rahmani said that PEC has constituted a task force for the implementation of the Building Energy Code of Pakistan. He said the government has extended a grant of Rs75 million to the PEC.
