Football: PMC Athletico register 1st win of season

Down KPT 3-0; players relieved and looking forward to the season.

KARACHI: PMC Athletico registered their first win at the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL), outclassing KPT 3-0 in Faisalabad yesterday.

Mohammad Usman opened the account in the 27th minute before Mohammad Yousaf added another a minute before the interval. Haroon Yousaf then put the result beyond doubt with the team’s third goal in the second minute of injury time.

Usman, named the player of the match, was pleased with the side’s first win of the season.

“Things don’t look too bad now,” Usman told The Express Tribune. “It’s about time that we won. Playing on our home ground helped us. This is the second time we’re taking part in the PPFL and it feels great to be a part of it. KPT are an experienced side and it’s boosted our confident after beating them.”

Athletico jump to 12th in the 16-team PPFL table with nine points in 10 games, while KPT slipped to ninth with 15 points after 12 matches.

In other results, Wapda’s Mohammad Ahmed scored the opening goal before Shakir Lashari equalised for PIA as the teams recorded a 1-1 draw. The result meant Wapda slumped to seventh place with 17 points after 11 matches, while Army climbed to fifth after defeating Muslim FC 2-0. Army’s Ansar Abbas scored the opening goal in the 20th minute before Jaffar Khan added another in the dying moments.
