The demonstrators urged the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to stop its assistance to Rohingya in Rakhine state, where tensions have been running high since deadly Buddhist-Muslim clashes broke out in June.
"We protested against the OIC and also Bengalis as we don't want them on our soil," organiser Nyo Aye told AFP by telephone from the state capital Sittwe.
Myanmar's estimated 800,000 Rohingya are viewed as illegal immigrants by the government and by many Burmese, who refer to them as Bengalis.
The rally came a day after hundreds of monks took to the streets of Sittwe to protest against local Muslims and the OIC's activities.
The tensions in Rakhine have spread to neighbouring Bangladesh, where police said last week they had arrested nearly 300 people in connection with a wave of violence targeting Buddhist homes and temples.

our local Rakhine are very peaceful people who are well -known in the country. so called Rohingya who are illegal migrants from Bangladesh. they are attacking and burning and pose threat to local communities and local people. No country would ever welcome illegal immigrants, especially when they are violent and threaten the national security. Instead of putting the entire blame on local people and government, one should try to understand both sides of the problems. You can't solve the problem without addressing the underlying reasons. First, these Rohingya's population growth is so high that it threatens the host communities where resource is already limited. Second, unlike other Muslims living in harmony among the local communities, Rohingya people lack flexibility for social integration. They don't speak local language, even their attire is very much different. Third, to draw inferences from what happened in Bangladesh, India (Bangalore) and Myanmar, hostile illegal immigrants pose a huge threat to local society. People were attacked in their own land! Which country can tolerate such atrocities.
Ask a Pakistani and he will tell you...
1) Buddhists are peaceful people even though they killed scores of innocent Tamilians (who were Hindus).
2) Buddhists are violent people because they are mistreating illegal Rohingyas in Myanmar.

These women showed the right way to protest as contrasted to the savage treatment dished out in banglades towards Buddhist temples and homes.Multiple temples were destroyed by enraged muslim mobs,buddha statues were beheaded and set on fire. Our people should learn to register their protest in a peaceful fashion.
