Tribal feud: SC takes notice of Vani incident
SC asks Balochistan’s chief secretary, deputy commissioner of Dera Bugti to submit report.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday took suo motu notice of the reported bartering of 13 minor girls for peace between two sub-clans of Bugti tribe in the Dera Bugti district of Balochistan.
Mir Tariq Masoori Bugti, a member of the Balochistan Assembly, is said to have presided over a jirga in the Baikar area of Phelawagh to settle a blood feud between Masoori and Shahani Masoori clans.
The jirga found the Masooris guilty and ruled that the offended party be given 13 girls in Vani besides a Rs3million fine. The SC asked Balochistan’s chief secretary and deputy commissioner of Dera Bugti to submit a report, and summoned the girls’ parents and the jirga.
Syed Faisal, the deputy commissioner of Dera Bugti, told the court the Vani incident was a month old and that the jirga was held in Barkhan, not Dera Bugti. He said the number of girls bartered was seven, not 13.
Upon this, the CJP asked the administrator what action had been taken if the matter was a month old. The advocate general of Balochistan replied saying the girls had not been handed over to the offended party as yet.
