RAWALPINDI:

The body of cab driver was recovered by the police from the outskirts of Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

The deceased, later identified as Iqbal Muhammad, 35, was found near Thalian village in the limits of the Saddar Beruni police. The police had been informed by a local resident who saw the body.

The police found a mobile phone in the pocket of the deceased, which led the investigators to learn that he was a cab driver whose cab — a Toyota Corolla owned by Iqbal, of Daudzai, Charsadda and bearing a Peshawar number plate (UP-5354) — was booked for Islamabad on Monday.

Investigation Officer Sub Inspector Lal Hussain Shah said Iqbal usually plied his cab between Torkham and Peshawar and was booked for Islamabad according to his family.

The body was shifted to Rawalpindi District Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital, where a postmortem confirmed Iqbal died of a bullet wound to the head.

The killers dumped the body in a deserted area and stole the vehicle, the IO said. The police are looking into call data from the deceased’s cell phone to try and trace the killers.
