Juglot-skardu road: ‘Timely completion to enhance defence’

SKARDU: The Juglot-Skardu Road is the only all-weather line of land communication for the Pakistani soldiers in the hostile terrain of Kargil and Siachen and it should be constructed as a priority. This was stated by former Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Deputy Chief Executive and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz Divisional Coordinator Baltistan Division, Fida Mohammad Nashad, while talking to media personnel here on Tuesday. Nashad added the road connects over half a million people of G-B to the rest of the country. He demanded of the president and the prime minister to expedite construction of the road, “if not the interest of the people of G-B then for the larger national interest of defence”. The road project was announced by the former prime minister during the election campaign of 2009. The National Highways Authority singed a contract with a leading Chinese company for the road but the contract was recently cancelled by the ministry of communications.
