After three days of interrogation, a suspect arrested after the shooting of a young man at Boat Basin has blamed his accomplice for the crime.
On October 5, Abdul Lateef Bawany was shot point blank inside Roadside Café by suspected bandits.
According to the statement given by the arrested suspect, Hafeez Rehman, his gang colleague Shafiq alias Tunda had shot the man because he thought that he was trying to tackle the robbers.
“It was his first time [for such a crime],” he stated. “We are not professionals otherwise we would have planned it better and this would not have happened.”
The suspect said that they snatched cell phones in Clifton and Boat Basin, and later sold them off in Usmanabad.
The case investigation officer, SI Abdul Ghaffar, said that Hafeez’s gang has four Pakhtun members. “They live in Hijrat Colony, Sultanabad and are childhood friends. They have no criminal records.”
The statements of police, Hafeez and Lateef’s family add up to how the incident occurred. Police claim to have learnt all about the gang, but have failed to arrest any more suspects.

This has been happening in many parts in the surrounding areas. These incidents have been very popular near the American Embassy on MT Khan road and Mai Kolachi as well. Many people who I have known, including myself have been victims of such preys. They just have not been looting but have also shot couple of people before. The man who was shot at roadside is not the only one who has suffered this unfortunate incident. Many residents of Lalazar, and guest who have been on their way home from their social clubs (Annexe and Boat club), have suffered the loot by these men from Sultanabad. The problem is police have not done anything about this situation. Many have reported to this police but nothing is ever done about it. I myself have reported an incident, hence they didnt even lodge an FIR, till I didnt had to pull few strings. A normal citizen like myself cannot lodge an FIR, because no police officer was on Duty at that time. Nothing will ever be done about these crooks, and they will continue to do such events sadly. I love my city, but its getting hard for me to return again without being scared to step outside my house.
Sou Motos anyone? or they only reserved for trials of graves?
All the members of this gang should be sentenced to death otherwise these shootings and crimes will never stop.
“It was his first time [for such a crime],” he stated. “We are not professionals otherwise we would have planned it better and this would not have happened.”.. WTH ! Is this some sort of a interview/ meeting which they could have planned?? 3rd degree will be better option to tackle these insects
Terrible incident, the perpetrators must be punished, not acceptable behaviour and the victim is a good man who did not deserve it.
@khurram: Where do racists come from and where can we send them?
The police says they have no criminal records. The criminals confess that they have been robbing people and getting away with the loot and selling it. Can we see this atatement by the police as an admissio to their inefficacy.
We need to send these people back
