RAWALPINDI:
A 19-year-old man was killed on Monday when a speeding bus struck his motorcycle at Committee Chowk Underpass, the Waris Khan police said. The deceased was identified as Bakhtawar, a resident of Bhabra Bazaar. Police arrested bus driver Khalid Mehmood, a resident of Kahuta, and registered a criminal case against him on the complaint of the deceased’s brother, Arbab. Quoting Arbab, the police said the accident occurred when a speeding bus (IDT-1534) belonging to a private telecom company ran over Bakhtawar at Committee Chowk Underpass on Benazir Bhutto Road, fatally injuring the victim. Traffic police wardens on duty at a nearby intersection managed to stop the bus and apprehended the bus driver, who was then handed over to the Waris Khan police. A Rescue 1122 team rushed to spot and moved the victim into an ambulance, but he died before reaching a hospital.
