A central court judge on Monday confirmed the interim bails granted to the Punjab chief minister’s former principal secretary Tauqeer Shah and staff officer Talha Burki.
They are suspected of releasing fake intelligence reports alleging a plot to murder former Lahore High Court chief justice Khwaja Sharif.
The judge confirmed the bails against Rs100,000 bonds each. In previous proceedings, the investigation officer had submitted a report.
The Federal Investigation Agency registered a first information report (FIR) against the man on charges of issuing a false intelligence report.
The agency accused them of hatching a conspiracy to create differences among the federal government, the provincial government and the judiciary.
Man convicted, sentenced to death
Additional District and Sessions Judge Abdul Qayyum on Monday convicted a man named Habibur Rehman of murder and sentenced him to death while acquitting Muhammad Ibrahim in the same case for lack of evidence.
The additional district and sessions judge directed Habibur Rehman, the convict, to pay the legal heirs of Muhammad Jamshaid, the murder victim, Rs200,000 as compensation. Muhammad Ibrahim was acquitted of the charge of murder.
According to the FIR of the case registered on the complaint of Jamshaid’s father Bagh Ali, Rehman and three others came to their rented house in Johar Town one night.
Ali said that Rehman had accused Jamshaid of stealing his mobile phone and had clubbed him to death.
Child killer sentenced to death
An anti terrorism court on Monday sentenced a man to death on two counts for the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl.
The judge also directed Iftikhar Ahmed to pay Rs200,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of Bisma Murad.
Ahmed had abducted the girl on her way to school on November 11. She was later found dead.
