The conflict was between the Bagirani and Shahwani tribes of the area.
Earlier on October 4, two vani cases were reported from separate localities of Mansehra.
Vani is a tribal custom in which girls are forced to marry members of different tribes as a result of settlement of feuds between conflicting clans.
According to a Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report, as many as 341 cases of forced marriage were reported in 27 districts in May this year.
Among all regions, cases of forced marriages decreased in Punjab and Sindh. However, a significant increase of 66% was registered in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) where 24 cases were reported in May 2012 as compared to last year’s nine. K-P and Balochistan also observed an increase.

@Fazil: "Its not fair to drag islam in every matter."
Fine we will blame Hindus and Jews then...
@Fazil: If it is a tribal practice, are those tribals Muslims? If they are not today when it does not suit you, how were they Muslims when Partition took place? It is very easy to say this is not permitted by Islam. Those who practice these traditions have been Muslims for centuries. They also come in useful when protesting against the West, don't they? You can't have your cake and eat it too.
BRAVE Baloch people can only have their hands on poor innocent girls... Shameless.
Its man world out there...and else where in Pakistan....a nation, a civilization, a culture that has failed to even given its mothers, sisters, daughters and wives basic rights let alone equal rights.....for me its a matter of shame, that I also come from same part of world......these guys have made religion a joke, an excuse, today so many Muslims but no Islam, so many Pakistani but no Pakistan....I find less and less reason why I should follow something I am loosing faith in. May Allah give these ignorants Hidyath so that atleast these guys can become a good human being let alone a good muslman - ameen
@Nadir: "Is this the Islam?" The question should be rephrased as " Is this legal?"
@Poleturtle: Somebody has to tell them about human values. They have been dehumanized. Its similar to medieval Europe, the change brought there was through education which does not necessarily mean being a doctor, engineer or MBA. You can see from the comments here the kind of society it is, its full of misinformation and hate.
@the Skunk:
So say you. But they meaning whomever is practicing it claim to be Muslims, they go to Mosque and pray don’t they? don’t they pray 5 times a day? they do more than rigorously than you.
The problem is you cannot simply say this is not Islam because you don’t agree with it. The truth is many stone practices are continuing with every organized religion in this world, very religion founded by a messiah has bought only death and destruction to mankind. They day the human race walk away from the so called organized religions of the world, and stop being manipulated by its so called leaders is the day world will start moving towards peace and harmony.
I bet every one of these inhumane practice had its start to settle some kind of score with the enemy with sole purpose of controlling human mind through abuse and mind control.
@Fazil:
Are you saying the tribals are not Muslims? They think they are, more so than you?
@Azhar Sadiq:
Just a stupid question, assuming the supreme court rules it is unconstitutional, what good the ruling will do? Which government is going to enforce the ruling?
Having an independent supreme court is great but if no one is willing to enforce the rule of law, nothing changes in reality, doe it?
@arsalan are we to assume consent from a 6 year old? Do you have children?
@Arsalan: It was a very good comment from Mohturrum. The comparision was right on the mark because Prophet's life is taken as an example by Muslims and illiterate Muslim men follow his life's example by marrying 14+ women especially in Saudia.
@mohturrum: Good Comment!
@Nida Rasul:
No jirga has ever stripped a lady or any one it is what PANCHAYATS do in Punjab and some parts of KPK where there is Hazara population..
@Nadir: Short answer - YES
This is same native American Indians who would smoke a peace pipe but here it is exchange of girls.Only the commodity has changed.
@Azhar Sadiq: I agree with your post 100%. However, the PCO CJ is not going to do anything to protect these under age innocent kids. He can only pounce on his own poor and homeless son's case to protect his own family not the ordinary innocent girls of Pakistan. In addition there is no political advantage in taking up this case. Regards, Mirza
These despicable traditions have nothing to do which govt is in power. Over 30 years of army rule with dictatorial powers could not put a dent in these horrible customs what can a powerless embattled elected govt do? The PCO CJ is not going to take any suo motu action on this horrible injustice as there is no political advantage in this. A memo case and decades old cases against the elected govt is more imp than selling off the young kids in horrible despicable customs. Standing up against these injustices against Pakistani women require a leader like Taseer not the lovers of Qadri and other terrorists that are released by the courts.
@Nadir: Does this have anything to do with Islam? You should know the answer. Stop blaming others , Islam and lack of youtube for your collective backwardness. BTW, where is that US congressman/Senator who has been so worried about the Baloch folks?
jus sayin........................
@LionOfPunjab: What exactly does PTI's march have to do with the bomb blasts in Quetta? YOU are a troll and a PML(N) troll at that.
why dont people just stand up to jirgas once? if they lose support they cant help it. last time they were beating a girl publicily or they strip her and make her walk the village, people just stand and WATCH! all of us are to blame.
While the IK's anti-drones do-gooders from amreeka and uk are still here, IK should have another march against these tribal custom. BTW, in today's news "...12 injured in Quetta bomb blast.." so much for the peace march by IK and their PTI trolls.
“In our Lady of Alice Bhatti’ doubleday , Mohammed Hanif writes.. ”there was not a single day- when a women gets shot or hacked, strangled or suffocated, poisoned or burnt, hanged or burnt alive. Suspicious husband, brother protecting his honor, father protecting his honor, son protecting his honor, jilted lover avenging his honor, feuding farmer selling their water disputes, moneylenders collecting their interest: most of lives’ arguments, it seemed, got settled by doing various things to a women’s body”
ASTAG'FIRRULLAH! This is what, which is response of weak enforcement of Law...
We Baloch condemn it in the strongest possible way, its not the tradition of Baloch as Baloch people respects the dignity of women and believes in equality. No nation is perfect, I don't blame it on the people but the establishment because if people had education such things wouldn't have happened.
@It Is (still) Economy Stupid: "...most of lives’ arguments, it seemed, got settled by doing various things to a women’s body...”
Conspiracy by Jews; Pakistan is pure.
Where are those scarf covered goris who accompanied Imran ? Send them to this place; all the pink and white civil societies and savior of human rights.
By the way who is beating the drum of separation in Balochistan? These people!!!
@ Nadir
sadly it is.
Nopes Mr. Fazil, this has everything to do with Islam. These are the same people who have these girls wearing hijabs and burqas. These are the same scum who keep these women very much inside home and treat them like cattle for work and nothing else. And yes this is all in the name of Islam. Idealistically sure, Islam may not call upon or dictate for any of these idiots to do these acts. However, and unfortunately the way Islam is practised in most of the countries around the world with the exception of a few, women are mostly oppressed and treated like cattle. This practice will have never been accomodated by the masses unless the underlying virtue was not Islam. This in fact is the same practice in all the tribal jirgas around the country. We have to call it what it is, and we have to start making an example out of these criminals who are not only embarassing pakistan around the world, but also destroying every notion about Islam as it should exist. But, first we must get them whipped in an open air court for all to see.
This is the state sponsored feudal culture of Pakistan at its peak. Tariq Masoori Bugti, who is MPA from dera Bugti lead this jirga. Tariq Masoori is the Army's man in the region who has been brought to control Dera Bugti after assassination of Nawab Akbar Bugti. This act has exposed Pro-Establishment tribal elders, who are free to do anything as long as they support military operations. This has nothing to do with Baloch customs and its merely creation of an illiterate mind. There are quite a few people like Tariq Masoori in Dera Bugti who act as kings and treat people like slaves.
Just thinking. How is this different from an arranged marriage in urban areas? Were the girls under aged here? Is it 100% sure that the families they are getting married into will mistreat them? I am against women abuse completely and trading of women as cattle but isnt vani no different that arranged marriages where parents say we know best? Alot of things are yet to be answered here.
Its not about religion. Its about lack of education.
Why not involve others to estb peace in Balochistan and Karachi and get a mix bread of Mohajirs-sindhis-pathans? That's why Mush was against. Sardars. Hope these girls are over 18 yrs. And u say that politician have no say in province
@Nadir - Dude why don't you figure out? You have a Muslim name.
Every one asking questions like:
1) When will this end? 2) When will our people realize this? 3) Who will do this? etc etc
You separate yourself from the state of the country and ask questions only.
We are Pakistan and we need to change.
I dont think marrying underage girl is wrong just like beloved prophet did with Aisha who aas just 6 yrs old. If we disallow such practices it will lead to rapes in society. So we can avoid rape this way.
Fawwad is absolutely correct. "State sponsored Pedophilia." These people call themselves Muslims?
There is an article in the Constitution that outlaws all laws against the injunctions of Islam. Karo Kari, Vani, Zihar are all anti Islam and outside the laws of Allah Allmighty. These are outdated, outmoded and anti-people tribal customs and have no place in our artificial Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Better the Parliament change the name to a simple "Pakistan" rather than continue to add insult to injury to the educated lot in the country.
When will the Council of Islamic Ideology or the Federal Shariat Court wake up and condemn this practice. If the High Courts can outlaw such customs, the High Courts must take 'suo moto' notice and catch the culprits. Tribalism has brought Pakistan to its knees. Salams
Vow! Vow Pakistan.
107 cases of Vani in Pakistan ( incl KPK, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan) in 2011 (acc Madadgar) - and legislation passed since 2011 i.e. 7 years of imprisonment - fine 500,000. There are increasing number of cases being registered in KPK - earlier people didn't even report it!! I hope this case is has legal consequences for the Jirga head as it happened in Mingora!
omg, still we are living in this world, no resue for women.
Pakistani women are most innocent women of world, 90% Men treat them like animal, they do hard work whole day for children, and night for their husband, just to eat two time meals,
Where are humen organizations, Islamic parties, Mullah, to save these girls from animals.
God help Pakistani women of Pakistan
Where is our dear CJ, it seems he is "Missing" this cruelty against women. I feel it is more important than Missing Persons issue, in which UN team was also called.
Its not fair to drag islam in every matter. Islam does not allow such practices and nor it is a legal practice in pakistan. Vani is a tribal practice. Blaming religion and country isn't fair.
@Azhar Sadiq: It is not the job of CJ to take such cases, this is the governments responsibility (specifically the AG) who has not performed any of his duties and is busy defending the PPP high ups.
Prime example of Guilty by association. It is the accused who should get punished and not the family members associated with them by birth.
Background: Alice Bhatti lives in a Christian slum and is a Christian nurse in a Muslim hospital in Karachi, Pakistan
Mohammed Hanif “In our Lady of Alice Bhatti’ doubleday Canada $22.95, Hanif writes.. ”there was not a single day-not a single day-when she didn’t see a women shot or hacked, strangled or suffocated, poisoned or burnt, hanged or burnt alive. Suspicious husband, brother protecting his honor, father protecting his honor, son protecting his honor, jilted lover avenging his honor, feuding farmer selling their water disputes, moneylenders collecting their interest: most of lives’ arguments, it seemed, got settled by doing various things to a women’s body” A powerful quote that will make you think
Inhuman act! using girls as commodities to settle scores? what kind of shamelessness leads to this after all?
The same people force women to wear hijab to prove that they are not sex objects and then exchange them to settle scores just sex objects.
Inna lillahe wa inna ilahey rajioon. Though we call ourselves Muslims, yet we have learnt nothing from Islam. No body is above the Laws of Allah. Such marriages are void and valueless. Shame!
Now the feudal apologists will come out and defend this monstrocity by declaring that this bartering of girls is our 'culture'.Exchanging girls like property to settle disputes,burying them alive are all to be defended in the name of ' our culture'.Since when is paedophilia part of 'culture' ?
Will the chief justice take suo moto notice of this atrocity? he's holding a hearing on the Balochistani law and order issue today? The exchanging of 13 small girls as cattle also should rank high up on the list of priorities of the state. Who will stop this paedophilia?
So a democratially elected member of the parliament oversees a jirga where underage girls are exchanged as peace offerings to settle a tribal feud.What action will the govt. take against its MNA? The news channels are reporting that the girls ages ranged from 4 to 16 years old,When will this state sponsored paedophilia end?
Is this the Islam?
