The goods were seized by a TMA team on Sunday under an anti-encroachment operation launched by the TMA to “clear roads being used as alternate routes by motorists while the Sixth Road flyover is being built”, said the Rawal Town TMA spokesperson.
The operation was conducted in Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Chandni Chowk, Fourth Road, Saidpur and Pindora, and confiscated seven truckloads of goods.
According to the spokesperson, the operation was launched on directives of Rawal Town Administrator Saif Anwar Jappa. He said the flyover will take 120 days, or four months, to be completed.
He said the operation was launched recently and city markets are being visited regularly. They will continue to monitor the alternate routes to keep them clear during the four months, he added.
A number of shopkeepers have also been issued warnings that cases would be registered against them if they continue to encroach on the roads. Another 15 shopkeepers were fined.

Good to see this possitive step, but it demands continuity to keep an eye on encroachments. Secondly it would have been much better and helpful for the people if in a small drive the streets used as alternate could have been repaired in advance.
