PBC to establish satellite radio station, says Murtaza Solangi

Radio Pakistan will soon be able to broadcast in 124 countries.

The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) is all set to establish its own satellite station enabling Radio Pakistan to broadcast in 124 countries across the globe.

PBC Director General Murtaza Solangi made the announcement while speaking at a ghazal show and recital of Hazrat Mian Muhamad Buksh’s poetry organised to mark the 10th anniversary of Azad Kashmir Radio Mirpur.

Besides quality programmes which provide quick information and entertainment, Radio Pakistan always focuses on highlighting problems of the common man, Solangi added.

Talking about PBC improving its technology, Solangi said, “The transmissions of Radio Pakistan as well as its subordinate units can also be heard on mobile phones, internet and smart phones besides the basic means of a radio.”

Solangi disclosed that the broadcasts of FM-101 were being expanded to various parts of Azad Kashmir, including Mirpur. He pointed out that 70 per cent of the total population of the country is under 30, and that the radio was a perfect medium to communicate information to them.

The PBC chief issued letters for the regularisation of the services of 17 local employees of Radio Mirpur and FM-93 in light of the government’s current policy.

Speaking on the occasion, Station Director Muhammad Shakeel asserted that Radio Mirpur was promoting social and cultural activities in the region.
