Mysterious gang: PHC asks witnesses to record statements

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) human rights cell director has asked people to record statements about the presence of a 40-member gang who has been allegedly looting and harassing women in and around Peshawar. Rumours of the gang’s presence surfaced in the city last week, after a number of complaints reached the human rights cell, which were then forwarded to the PHC Chief Justice (CJ), Dost Muhammad Khan. CJ Khan also said that a few police officials could be involved and that the group could also be supported by security agencies to create panic hoping to delay the next election. People in affected areas have formed teams to patrol streets for protection and vigilance. However, police sources maintain that so far no complaints have been filed against the group nor did the police confirm its existence.
