Speaking at a press conference after his return from Sri Lanka, Razzaq, said that Hafeez should at least own the decision of dropping him. “He should not deflect the blame to the board and management, and should own up that it was his decision to drop me.”
When captain Mohammad Hafeez had returned to Pakistan earlier, he said that the decision not to play Razzaq was taken by the team management since they wanted to play someone who could bowl spin.
Razzaq though went on to stress that the debate whether to drop him for the semi-final was a good one or not was separate. “If he has dropped me, he should say that it was his [Hafeez’s] decision to drop me, and that he is the captain and its his planning.”
The right handed slog-overs-specialist who was selected for only one game in the entire tournament, said that after the win over Australia, the team was on a high and all the players were in favour of fielding an unchanged side for the semi-final as well.
The only that regret that will remain is that our team lost, and lost out on a world cup.”
Earlier, speaking to the press upon his return, he said that “I was very confident that I would perform in the semi final. And Sri Lankans too commented that we had an opportunity because you [Razzaq] were not playing.”
About the semi-final, the all rounder said that “when we needed 57 runs in the last eight overs, it was the ideal situation for me to come in, but since I was not playing I was quite hurt and did not feel good that my team was losing and I was sitting outside.”
Commenting on his fitness, the 32 year-old said that “my fitness did not let me down and I still have good fitness, and the chairman trusted me enough to bring me in the team, hope the chairman will give me a chance in the future.”

irrespective of what Razzaq said, cricket should be banned from Pakistan! the money spent(or i should say wasted) should be utilized on other areas where needed. These players take a huge amount and do nothing! i mean is there any easy job in world other than playing and get paid? Other sports should be promoted rather than cricket.
Nations speaks for you...you are our hero...we are with you. Just do not make your self controversial by speaking to media.
Seems like A. Razzaq is sad about not playing and not really sad about the fact that the team lost. He should realize that he has gotten old too, and does not really offer much anymore. Plus, he doesn't guarantee anything. So what if Hafeez decided to play Tanveer? It was cricketing decision. Razzaq needs to quit whining.
i think haffez is the main reason for pak lost against SL.beacuse haffez felling more pressure than any other players and not inclution the best T20 player for pak........tanvir is a WAST player for pak
I was very angry and upset when Abdul Razzak was not included in WT20 semifinal ... not only in semi final but as a senior, match winner player.... i was missing him in every match ......Just a single question who are in favor of Muhmmad Hafeez and against Abdul Razzak...... Did you ever see a senior most player sitting on the bench as a 12th Man..... why he was included in WT20 squad then.... Wasim Akram... Abdul Qadir and other senior players were shouting about this but no one was hearing at that time ..... What a shame!!!! ....
I don't think a captain is all powerful, especially a relatively new captain trying to gain control of the team. So the whole team management must have been involved. Also trying to bring the name of the Board Chairman in this affair is in bad taste. I thought we had a selection committee?
I am an Indian and big fan of Abdul Razzaq. He has delivered more victories to Pakistan than any other cricketer including Javed Miandad, Imran Khan, Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi. I did some research about Abdul Razzaq`s back ground, why he is not a front runner as other cricketers I mentioned. I came to conclusion that he came from less fortunate suburb of Lahore, Shahdhra. He is very shy and he does not have a marketing Guru. He never complains. He is a nice guy and nice guys finish last. Regardless, he has die hard fans including me. I am reminded of an Urdu Sheyar..
Hazaron Baras Nargis Apni Be-Noori Pe Roti Hai Barhi Mushkil Se Hota Hai Chaman Mein Deedawar Paida.
Hafeez is a curse for Pakistan cricket. He should own up to many blunders he had made in this tournament. His stubbornness to open, keeping Asad Shafiq out, insisting with the chronic failures like Shoaib Malik, Yasir Arafat, and Imran Nazir, and best of all dropping Razzaq in the semi final are just a few of his mediocrity. Hafeez should be shown the door, there are much better players especially the opening batsmen in the country who are waiting in the sidelines.
Razzaq is one of the best all rounder Pakistan has ever produced and making him sit outside was a huge mistake since he was in full form especially with bat, but having said that, He must not speak to the media directly as it shows his unprofessional behavior. Any one who has even a little interest in cricket, already support him and knows this snub was wrong and will cost Hafeez dearly, hopefully.
Same thing happened with Shoaib Akhtar and it was Afridi who did not play him in the semi final of the world cup. Pakistan cricket is full of politics and groups and the fans are the ones who are always suffering. We should all stop watching cricket for good.
Razzak stop acting like a baby...
Why these players have so much ego that they can't see other player going ahead of them.Abdul Razzaq is world best allrounder. But pity on Hafeez mind. Please play game, not politics in team.
@ sid, take a hike
This is a place of shame for Mr.Hafeez to take such action !! if he wanted to drop the person who had been underperforming so he should have dropped Shahid Afridi !!!
Dude, you were BADLY missed!!!! I hope hafeez learns from his mistakes. Talent like him should be valued.
Felt absolutely terrible about Razzaq's exclusion. He is such a talented player and a joy to watch. He has never disappointed. Million miles better & a proper team player than dumb Afridi (15 plus years in professional game and he didn't even bother to read the ball). People need to get over the fact that Afridi was and is a waste of space and instead players like AR or perhaps youngsters should get a chance to play. Afridi always lacked the core quality which leads to success in any field of life and that is consistency. Legends don't perform seldom, they perform consistently and work their socks off on their weaknesses. Afridi has proudly stated that he would never change his aggressive style, which might brings entertainment to some but brings no class to the game. No sympathies for Pakistani team at all. They got what they deserved and I am not hesitant to say that they won't get much further with this attitude either.
“when we needed 57 runs in the last eight overs, it was the ideal situation for me to come in, but since I was not playing I was quite hurt and did not feel good that my team was losing and I was sitting outside.” I FEEL YOUR PAIN RAZZAQ....!!!!! We Missed ya..>!!
Razzaq has been unlucky throughout his career, apart from Wasim Akram he was disrespected, misused and mistreated by every captain. Its a shame considering all that he could have had offered to Pakistan cricket, he was wasted, while players like Afridi, Malik, Nazir get chances over chances over chances again n again n again. Shame on us.
game was fixed when Gul gave runs and made SL total respectable. All hafeez needed was trusted batsmen who would get out in time to loose. Razzaq may have turned the thing upside down. PCB gave trophy to SL in hope they will help PPL and tour next.
Just like WC Semi with India and 5 dropped catches of Sachin/slow scoring by Misbah. There was no intention to win. Sure Afiridi was not in this, but he would not fight since there was no incentive anymore of becoming captain. There are only few players who can win the game by themselves: Kevin Peterson, Gayle, Jayawardhane, Yuvraj, Watson/Hussey, Dvilliers and razzaq.
and pakistan chose to keep out razzaq. would have been better shahid to open get 10-15 runs in 4-5 balls, drop malik( cannot bowl and cannot bat eithet) to bring razzaq.Asa
New One day should be Nasir, Azhar, Umar akmal, Asad, Hafeez, Razzaq, Gul, ajmal, hasan, Z. haider plus fast bower.
Very well said razzaq!
Of course we need the all rounder Abdul Razzaq in place of S.TANVEER,,R.HASAN,,S.MALIK in SAMI FINAL.but our PROFESSAR CAPTIN drop him for FRIENDSHIP.All BLAME ON MR.PROFESSOR.WILL HE ANSWER TO NATION.
He is right........we needed him because afridi cannot be relied upon
That's quite silly of Razzak to create a controversy since decision to play or drop a player is taken in the best interest of the team whether taken by the team captain or jointly. How can he be so sure that Pakistan would have won the match if he was included in the team ?
boom boom Razzaq..........the REAL boom boom....!!
"When captain Mohammad Hafeez had returned to Pakistan earlier, he said that the decision not to play Razzaq was taken by the team management since they wanted to play someone who could bowl spin."
But Razzaq was replaced by Sohail Tanveer who is not a spin bowler and, more importantly, cannot bat!
Agreed; he should not have been dropped especially since it is our batting (not our bowling) which has let us down.
Don't start blame game and with it shut all doors onto yourself. This Hafeez and his favourites (Afridi, Malik, Akmal Brothers etc) are not going anywhere.
This is height of indisipline.............Players under contract talking to media on selection issues.............PCB should take action
Its very sad that we spoiled one of the best all rounder by playing politics with him.
