KARACHI:

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has asked his party to remove all pictures of him from government and private institutions in Karachi.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party chief issued “strict directions” to the MQM’s Coordination Committee, the Karachi Tanzeemi Committee, party workers and members of different departments, to not turn government and privately held buildings into a political ground or party office.

“Take all my photographs off,” Hussain said in his statement. “I have learnt that in many government and private organisations, MQM representatives, workers, supporters and officers have put up my pictures.” The party chief said that the sanctity of these organisations should be maintained and his images should be removed immediately.

He asked MQM workers to follow his instructions and not to involve themselves in debate over others who put up pictures of their political leaders. Photographs of the MQM chief are common in buildings like Civic Centre, where a large photograph of the party founder was placed on the façade several months ago.
