The incident took place in the 17th over of Pakistan's innings when Umar, who was the non-striker, ignored both on-field umpires' request and went ahead to change his batting gloves.
"Respect for the umpires is integral and is something which we always emphasise and encourage," said match referee Jeff Crowe.
"In this incident, Umar showed blatant disregard to both the umpires' requests, which was offensive and unacceptable from an international cricketer and contrary to our unique spirit, hence a level two charge was laid.
"Umar, when pleading guilty, apologised and regretted his action."
Umar was found to have breached the ICC code of conduct, article 2.2.11, which relates to "conduct contrary to the spirit of the game".
Umar finished the game at the Premadasa stadium unbeaten on 29 as his team failed to chase down a 140-run victory target.
Sri Lanka will face either Australia or West Indies in Sunday's final.

I have met Akmal brothers....n I don't think they are rude or something! And I don't think he did anything wrong! Umpires really need to grow up! They are just making it a big news out of small act !!
Though akmal brothers always been rude, it seems a bit harsh decision. He ahould be warned thats all,.. From an indian...
We would find all the excuses not to follow the laws and authority. If your parents or teachers tell you not to do anything at that time or moment what would one do? Start attacking the character of the parents or teachers! The umpires make mistakes and it is the part of the game and not a willful neglect or ignoring the authority of the superiors. There would be good days and bad days but one must follow the umpire’s orders. What people like Akmal are teaching the youngsters is “do not listen to the umpires”. In addition if he was not wrong why did he apologize then? If an umpire makes a wrong decision so the player should not leave the wicket just because he is not out?
Afridi...the main player responsible for Pakistan's debacle in the t20 semi final against Lanka. Afridi should be trashed out of the team for good. He is good for nothing not even for carrying water bottles....
@Anwar Ahmad: If ur gloves arent giving u proper grip u have to change it! if its not about bat and gloves why dont u take a bat of tape tennis and try playing hard ball with that?
Er...this is just rubbish. What if his gloves were too sweaty and he coundn't time the ball because of that. Umpires please take a chill pill.
Did he use profane language against the umpire? -- No
Did he hit the umpire? --- No
Did he walk off in protest ? --- No
Did he admit his mistake ? -- Yes
There should be no fine. Umpires please grow up.
May be he was not aware of the rule. or may be he might have signalled for the change of the gloves before the over started and the 12th man brought the gloves when the over was in progress and Umar didnt want to make him wait and stand on the ground.
Even if he did commit a mistake, the punishment was too harsh. he could have been reprimanded and let off.
This same umpire warned Suresh raina from moving from his slip position after the bowler had bowled the delivery in the match with SA. He seem to be a bit too harsh and wants to show he is the boss on the field.
Umar looked to be the only hope in the middle order.
I think to say putting our country to shame is a bit extreme. It was an important match and he was under a lot of pressure. This is minor. Big news out of a little act. How quickly people forget the good and concentrate on the bad. Shame on you.
Nothing for the umpire who's wrong Nasir Jamshed LBW decision cost Pakistan.the match? That rod phukker...?
Now he will claim victimhood once he is back
serves you right sore loser !!!
Fair Enough ... But Dam hai Larky main,. unlike his Cowered Brother who despite of being a wicket keeper hides his face when ball comes his way !!
Poor Akmal thought change of gloves might bring couple of fours and sixes with them but he forgot power is in your mind, arms & sharp eyes not in gloves & bats. OTOH Afridi brought in a bat which had big "Boom" print on it but the ball really turned out to be BOOM for him.
How is umpire punished when he gives blatantly wrong decision like the one given in case of Jhamshed LBW
Why are the Akmal brothers so rude?
