ISLAMABAD:

The National Humanitarian Network (NHN), a group of 180 NGOs working to provide humanitarian assistance to those in need across the country, expressed its concern over the miserable conditions flood-affected people are living in.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the network urged humanitarian agencies and the government to take urgent steps and provide flood victims with food, drinking water, shelter, emergency support and hygiene facilities.

The NHN also pointed out that inundation of vast swathes of agricultural land will deprive thousands of families of their source of livelihood and push them into the quagmire of poverty.

They regretted the slow and inadequate response of the government and added that there should be better coordination between the provincial government and district government.
