Russian foreign minister was speaking to media after his meeting with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.
Commenting on the unexpected cancellation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s much-anticipated visit to Pakistan, Lavrov said the only reason behind the delay was because of scheduling issues.
Stating that the solution for the Afghan problem should come from within the country, the Russian foreign minister stressed that interference from outside would not work.
He also said that Russia welcomes improving ties between Pakistan and India.
Foreign minister Khar informed her counterpart that there is a national consensus in Pakistan that relations with Russia must be strengthened.

Something is better than nothing and at least Russia is much better than USA who declared the drones' strikes a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and didn't say so that drones' strikes are US' basic right to defend US' itself and US' interests......
@Sultan Ahmed.: "...the only country does not believe in revenge,..." Trotsky was killed in US where he thought he would be safe from Soviet death squads. If there is one country that upholds Din's Law, it is Russia. Every provocative act shall be avenged, no matter what the cost! Ask the Lebanese amongst others. That is why no one, bar none, fiddles with no-nonsense Russians!
So, Russian Minister is telling us about the relations with India!!!!!
@Raj: How about you focus on the 'foreigner' Indians occupying Kashmir? Worry about others later.
"Higher then Mountain, Deeper then Ocean" statement on the way [:D]
Very wise move of GoP to create a pressure group before taking up matter to international mediators. Thumbs up
Russian media is saying"Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who arrived Wednesday on a seemingly hastily scheduled visit". The million dollar is what Pakistan is offering in exchange assurance that Russian territory and sovereignty will be respected by not training non state actors?
@Adnan: Are you finding solace in Russian statements? Pity that you haven't learned lessons for over 4 decades.
@Cautious: That shows the priorities of different nations. On most occasions, media play to the gallery.
so Russia supports the Pakistani position of opposing the drone publically and supporting it in private. I don't think anybody has problem with this. Including Imran Khan.
In Russian newspapers they don't mention anything about drones and seem to focus primarily on discussions related to the Syrian conflict. Similar to when Chinese officials visit - what is said in the Pakistani newspapers is rarely reflected in the papers of the visiting diplomat - why is that?
It is an open secret,Afghan people understand Americans as aggressor they also understand killer of their loved one so they never like to sit with them on the negotiating table
American are looking around for safe way to getting out .2014 has set the date of withdrawal but it is very hard to completion of the mission.
There are two ways leading to the solution, one is the war with total recall secondly stooges ruler be removed forthwith under the demand of Taliban and release all confined in the Cuba jails.
It is an admitted fact that Afghan territory has be become flashpoint between the nations which can be blasted any time and take the world to the brink of destruction.
Leaders should sit together under the United nations room and took the solution unanimously ,otherwise the world would have to see one more world war which would sweep the land from human being.
It is interesting to note that many countries including Pakistan have issued statements that the Drone strikes violate Pakistan's sovereignty. Privately however, they all support the Drone strikes in Pakistan. The Russian Foreign Minister's statement is on the same lines.
I feel that both Russia and China wants their army in Pakistan. Several months ago, China made open request to Pakistan to have its forces in FATA and GB. They already have some forces in GB working as engineers on various construction projects. Russia also wants to do the same. Construction of Pipeline and Dams provides the best cover to bring in their security forces as engineers or workers. It would make it easy for the Establishment to sell it to the public. Pipeline construction offers the best opportunity as it passes through the most troubled areas of Pakistan and foreign Army can be stationed deep inside Pakistan. One way it may be good for Pakistan to let others eliminate terrorists from its land. But, if armies of China, Russia and USA are all present within Pakistan, it may pose a serious problem to Pakistan at a later stage.
Scheduling issues, indeed!!!!!
Could someone educate me on what Russia's position is about the Pakistani state not doing anything to uproot terrorism and not providing safety to its religious minorities! Besides, if Russia seriously considers drone strikes on FATA to be illegal and violation of Pakistan's sovreignty, why had the Russian Foreign Ministry officially supported the U.S. attack on Abbottabad that killed Osama Bin Laden? Why was the U.S. attack on Aabbotabad not illegal and not against Pakistan's soreighnty?
Russia is a mystery no doubt. They stopped the European gas few years back. their style is different from Europe and America. Even China and India had difficulty dealing with Russia.Pakistan must prepare itself to deal with Russian "thug" style diplomacy.
yeh (russia pakistan china iran) its time to take the leadership of the world.
This is a step in the right direction.

Are Russians so naive to believe, Pakistan Government's dual stance on drones? They gleefully allow drones attack to continue while paying lip service & issue shallow rhetorical statements against these attacks for public consumption.
Neither is Russia running the drone program nor is it in a position to pressurize US to stop drones. We have a saying: Begani shaadi mein Abdullah deewana
If Pakistan wants US to stop the Drones, it will have to take it up with the US, UN or if that doesnt work then try shooting down one drones
