Media workshop: Reporting standards need to be improved
“Reporters must dig deeper for facts and this can only happen after they have had proper training.”
KARACHI:
Speakers at a training workshop at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology highlighted that the standard of reporting in Pakistan must be improved.
“Reporters must dig deeper for facts and this can only happen after they have had proper training,” said a panel of speakers at the workshop, including Prof. Dr Tauseef Ahmed, Siddique Baloch, and Akhtar Mir. Giving examples from the recent Baldia factory fire, they said that details of the rescue workers and fire tenders reaching the factory late were under-reported by the media. “There are not enough opportunities for inexperienced reporters to receive professional training,” they said.
