World space week: SUPARCO to organise activities from Oct 4

The celebrations, which occur annually from October 4 to October 10, will be held in 65 countries this year.

Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) will organise a number of events in the upcoming World Space Week, an international celebration of astronomy’s contribution to mankind.


The celebrations, which occur annually from October 4 to October 10, will be held in 65 countries this year. The theme for this year’s Space Week is ‘Space for Human Safety and Security’. The inauguration ceremony will be held on October 4 at the National Centre for Remote Sensing and Geo Informatics and education minister Pir Mazharul Haq will be the chief guest. A bus equipped with multimedia will travel through the province’s villages, educating their residents about space exploration and its benefits.

Quiz contests and water rocket competitions for students of public and private schools will be held at Suparco’s headquarters.  Sky simulation shows will also be held at the PIA Planetarium on October 5, 8 and 9. A two-day fair will be held at the PAF Museum, starting from October 6.  It will include various activities such as sky observation, space movies and water rocket demonstration. APP
