The move to restructure the department was made in the light of the recently promulgated Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance 2012 as well as to reduce the workload of SSPs and SPs, ensuring that crime can be tackled more effectively.
Grade-19 officers have been posted in the Gulshan, Orangi, Gulberg, Clifton and City divisions because of increasing crime rates in the areas.
Grade-18 officers have been posted to the remaining 15 divisions.
The officers will assume charge of their new posts soon. The restructuring has brought mostly cosmetic changes - the designation of most officers, including SP Sarfaraz Nawaz and SP Chaudhry Asad Ali, has changed but they are still controlling the same police stations.
For a few, the workload has indeed decreased. “This change will obviously have a huge impact,” said Orangi division SSP Amir Farooqui, who was previously the District West SSP. “I used to have control over 18 police stations but now I command only seven. This makes my jobs easier and I can command the activities at these police stations more closely.”
