Workshop for working women: ‘Capital to be made model city’

Participants of a three-day training workshop resolved to implement anti-harassment laws in their respective domains.

ISLAMABAD: The participants of a three-day training workshop which concluded on Monday, resolved to implement anti-harassment laws in their respective domains.  The training aimed to familiarise participants with the laws and the mechanism for their enforcement by adopting a code of conduct in their offices to ensure a secure environment for working women. Speaking on the occasion Capital Administration and Development Senior Joint Secretary Abdul Latif Laghari, who is also co-chairperson of the Federal Implementation Watch Committee for Anti-Sexual Harassment Laws, said they were endeavouring to make the capital a model city for working women. Maliha Husain, the core trainer of the workshop, said it was time to shift the focus from the victim of harassment to the harasser’s behaviour so that they could change societal attitudes. She apprised the participants that Parliament had passed the Protection Against Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2010 and Pakistan Penal Code Section 509, making harassment a punishable crime.
