KARACHI: The Sindh education minister, Pir Mazharul Haq, has said that all government school teachers whether serving in the urban or rural areas would be given equal allowances. He was talking with a delegation of Government Secondary Teachers Association Sindh at his office on Tuesday. The schoolteachers in the province would be given equal allowances just like the college teachers are given, as the government is committed toward the betterment of teachers, Pir Mazhar said. Under the new education policy, the primary schools in the province would be converted into elementary schools and 800 primary schools have already been given the higher status. The posts of primary, junior and high school teachers would become two cadres - elementary teachers of grade 16 and senior elementary teachers of grade 17. The fund of $100 million to be received from the World Bank would be spent on the recruitment of teachers, free textbooks for students and the renovation of schools, Pir Mazhar told the government teachers delegation.
