KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court stayed on Wednesday for 15 days a fresh by-election for the provincial assembly seat on PS-53 constituency in Tando Muhammad Khan.

The previous election was annulled after PPP candidate Wahida Shah was caught on tape beating polling staff.

A division bench, headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, passed this order on a miscellaneous application moved by Shah herself. On September 20, the SHC had set aside her disqualification by the Election Commission but had ordered fresh by-polls.

The ECP had disqualified Shah for two years for slapping presiding officer Habiba Memon and other polling staff on February 25. On Wednesday, her lawyer submitted that she was willing to appeal in the Supreme Court and thus had requested the court for a stay order on a fresh by-poll till then.
