QUETTA: A demonstration was held on Tuesday in front of the Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC) office to protest against corruption and violation of merit in the institution. The candidates were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the chairman of the BPSC and other officials. BPSC is responsible for the recruitment of the best suited candidates against the gazetted posts of Basic Pay Scale (BPS) 16 and 17. In recent times, the institution has been castigated by various political parties, student wings and victim candidates who think they had been ignored unjustly in favour of less competent but affluent candidates. The subsequent results tainted with accusations of cronyism and favouritism infuriated candidates and drove them to protest. Protestors demanded that Chief Justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry take suo motu notice of the rampant corruption in BPSC and sack the current chairman.
