Police Custody: Five more suspects remanded

KARACHI:

The Anti-Terrorism Court-III granted a one-day remand to the Boat Basin police for five additional suspects that they have rounded up in a case of damaging cars and other property on Friday, September 21.

Twenty-two men were detained by the Boat Basin police on Friday and remanded till September 26. The First Information Report 457/2012 was registered by the police station under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act and sections of the Pakistan Penal Code that covers offences for rioting, attempted murder, assaulting or using criminal force against public servants and causing mischief by using fire or explosive substances.

The police are likely to ask for more time from the courts after the remand period expires in order to be able to produce a comprehensive charge-sheet. In the event that there appears to be little evidence against the men in custody, the prosecutor can ask the police to prepare a report under section 169 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
