Pakistan Railways beefs up security at major stations

CCTV cameras and X-ray/scanning machines have been installed at stations in Karachi, Lahore and Rohri.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has installed CCTV cameras at three main stations as part of its measures to ensure fool-proof security. These cameras have been installed at stations in Karachi, Lahore and Rohri while two X-Ray/Scanning Machine were also installed at Karachi and Lahore stations.      

An official source on Tuesday said that walk through gates were also being installed at major railway stations, to screen of passengers and luggage, including Peshawar Cantt, Nowshera, Attock City, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rohri, Nawabshah, Karachi Cantt, Karachi City, Hyderabad, Quetta and Sibi.

He added that Pakistan Railways Police (PRP) were also being deputed to provide security at these stations.

Owing to budgetary constraints, the official said that the above equipment was not provided to other railway stations, however the PRP staff, equipped with arms and ammunitions and metal detectors, was providing security at these stations.

He said on availability of funds the above equipment would also be purchased and installed at other stations.

Purchase of jammers for Lahore station was currently under process, the official added.
