According to initial details, Kashif was travelling to Lahore with his mother when he got off the bus near Kasur and crossed the border to see India. He entered Hussainiwala, a village in Indian Punjab.
He was arrested by the Indian security forces and was sent to the Child Observation Centre of Fareed Kot jail.
When Kashif did not return, his family members reported his absence to the Mandi Ahmedabad police station.
Express News correspondent Noman Sheikh said that the Indian jail authorities claim they had written letters to the Pakistani authorities in this regard but received no response.
Kashif is a resident of Okara and went missing on September 18, 2011.
While speaking to Express News, social worker Madiha Gohar said she contacted the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) for Kashif’s repatriation on the request of Indian authorities
Gohar said the commission contacted the family and then informed the Pakistani High Commission in India about the development. She said the Pakistani officials in India need to do the required legal work to bring back the boy.

It seems the boy has been found innocent and the Pakistani authorities have not responded to repatriate him. Last year the boy must have been in grade 6 and it’s a shame that insane wrangling between the governments is denying the boy a chance to education which may prove to be very destabilizing in his life. I am sure the boy is already traumatized to a great extent. I request the Indian authorities to provide a teacher for him to teach necessary subjects to keep in touch with books until after his case is resolved. It will be a humanitarian gesture on the part of Indian authorities.
@unbeliever: Yes, but why should i non-pakistani, log onto a pakistani news website and then start criticizing Pakistan? We have our own news websites, you have your own. please stay on you're own sites unless you want us to start criticizing you (we wont have to go on ur websites because there is already enough indians coming on this website daily!)
@PakPower: After how many years
I am not sure why commenters are getting angry at Indian authorities here. From the story, it appears that the Indians took the necessary steps to repatriate the boy, but did not get any response from Pakistani authorities. Am I reading something wrong?
...he got off the bus near Kasur and crossed the border to see India. He entered Hussainiwala, a village in Indian Punjab. ...Indian jail authorities claim they had written letters to the Pakistani authorities in this regard but received no response. ...She said the Pakistani officials in India need to do the required legal work to bring back the boy. . whatever the reason he crossed over, whether out of curiosity or sent for spying and irrespective of how Pakistan treats Indian prisoners, he is just a child. send him back to his home fast.
In Pakistan and India the only Institution which functions effectively and honestly is the institution of "Bribery!" The lads pockets were unfortunately empty!
@Vikas: I dont think we can relate both the cases , Sarabjit has been "convicted" by the SC of Pakistan , but the kid just crossed a border due to curiosity, and I think a year in jail is a sufficient "punishment" to prevent him from crossing the border of his village , and i personally think he should be released, provided no one has concrete evidence against him
Release Sarabjit First. He is there in Jail for more than 13 years. Infact 20+ years
I think the kid should be released immediately.
Why ruin a young boys life over our nations issues ?
@Pakistani: Many Indians like ET...

I doubt whether he will be interested in going back to Pakistan?
Th boy seems to be happy in India
@Omar:
There are similar cases in Pakistan where Indian boys are in jail for many years. Recently Ansar Burney of Pakistan who is doing a yeoman service confirmed a boy in Pakistan jail since last 3 years who was distraught at the death of his father and landed in Pakistan. In this case Pakistan authorities did not inform Indian government unlike the case under discussion where Indian jail authorities have at least informed Pakistan authorities but did not get any response.
Recently there was a news in Indian news papers where one of the released prisoner from a Middle East country with close ties to Pakistan, disclosed that he met an Indian Prisoner of 1971 war who was sent by Pakistan military to that country in 1975 and he is languishing there since 1975. Now how can a POW be transferred to a third country by Pakistan and claim there are no POWs in Pakistan?
@Pakistani:
this is world wide web. and it is not property to any pakistani or indian. we can navigate as per our wish, but not so when we are walking in real life. because stepping over a landmine is sure to bring sorrow.
however, the boy is barely in it's TEEN, and must be released ASAP.
According to initial details, Kashif was travelling to Lahore with his mother when he got off the bus near Kasur and crossed the border to see India..............seems it is very easy to cross over to India. BSF should be more alert in future. You never know who else will cross over in future.
Very sad. Should be released ASAP.
@mr. righty rightist: Don't want to sound 'cynical', but can you please tell me exactly what are you doing on a Pakistani news website?
Where are the Indian trolls now? Who cry about Rimsha Masih, & minorities in Pakistan!! Keep ypur own house clean before pointing fingers at others, message to India!!
Very sad. This boy has been in an Indian jail for a year already. Indian authorities should take the earliest steps to free him - without charge - and send him back. Insaaniyat bhi kuchh cheez hai yaar. V. C. Bhutani, Delhi, India, 25 Sep 2012, 1813 IST
There goes Aman kee Asah down the drain.....
Unfortunate......Lets hope that he is released immediately!!!
The child must be screened and immediately released if found innocent.
I don't want to sound cynical, but ever since I have seen the picture of a 5 year old Pakistani boy in shabby clothes, wearing an A K 47 and 2 hand guns, I think, we Indians should be careful.
In maximum possibility this poor kid is innocent, however, screen him once and if found innocent, please release immediately.
tunnel to Indian jail?
