KARACHI: Local boxers have complained of not been given enough training opportunities by the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) and have asked for a national training camp to be organised soon to help them remain in top shape.

“We need to be in the national training camp where we can train with the country’s top players because a boxer must undergo regular training,” one of the boxers told The Express Tribune. He added that although the National Games have been delayed but a camp should be organised since the SAF Games were imminent. “The reason for our failure in qualifying for the Olympic was because of poor preparation. People should understand that boxers need to keep working hard to maintain their fitness levels.”

Meanwhile, according to the PBF, 17 names have been shortlisted for the national training camp and the list has been submitted to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) for its approval.

“We want to start the camp but are waiting for the PSB to give its approval,” said PBF Secretary Akram Khan.
