Financial crunch: KMC still waiting for Rs320 million grant

The corporation currently requires Rs860.5 million to pay salaries.

KARACHI: The Karachi Municipal Corporation is still awaiting a monthly grant of Rs320 million under the Octroi Zila Tax from the Sindh government. The corporation submitted an application to the Sindh finance department over two months ago, but the matter has yet been settled. This adds to the its financial woes as it cannot even pay salaries. The corporation currently requires Rs860.5 million to pay salaries, whereas the government gave it Rs820 million under the Octroi Zila Tax in July. The government released an additional amount of Rs500 in the same month, but refused to release anymore funds after July.
