Station House Officer Rana Mazharul Haq said Qaisar, a resident of Chak 103-RB, was one of the four men, riding two motorcycles, a police team had stopped for a security check near Parokiyanwala. He said instead of stopping they opened fire at the police party and drove away towards Naliyanwala Road. The SHO said the police team chased the suspects and killed Qaiser in a shootout that went on for an hour. He said the other three men, of whom two were identified as Aslam Jura and Nasrullah, managed to escape. Superintendent of Police (Crime Investigation Agency) Rai Zameerul Haq said the deceased had escaped while being escorted to a court by two police constables in Jhang Bazaar area. He said according to Constables Yasir and Hameed, Qaiser had pushed them away and fled away near Imam Bargah Chowk. He said Qaiser had been arrested the same day in a raid led by Sub Inspector Muhammad Asghar.
The SP said the two constables had been arrested and were being interrogated for possible collusion.
He said the deceased had carried a bounty of Rs600,000. He was wanted for a murder of 2005 and for the killing of a police constable in a shootout in Mamu Kanjan area and several robberies.
