Seventeen culprits of Sialkot lynching in custody

Six out of ten police officials involved have voluntarily surrendered and are expected to be arrested on Monday.

Seventeen of the eighteen culprits of the Sialkot lynching have been arrested.

This was stated by Additional IG Mushtaq Sukhera while addressing a press conference in Sialkot on Sunday. Sukhera, who is heading the joint investigation team probing the incident, said that said that six out of ten police officials involved have voluntarily surrendered and would be arrested on Monday.

The Additional IG said that the remand of the culprits along with recording their statements would be carried out tomorrow, which will conclude the investigation.

He said the incident has damaged the image of police and Pakistan in the eyes of the world. Sukhera also praised Sialkot police for their efforts under the DPO's supervision in making headway in the case.

He said the investigation team has probed the incident on merit and justice.

s butt | 14 years ago | Reply i am british born of pakistani ethnicity. I like every person who knows of this deeply believe that the culprits should be hanged for this crime. According to pakistani law if the corrupt officials do not take bribes will be hanged because this is 1st degree murder of the highest kind and there is enough evidence to prove this now.

maitre | 14 years ago | Reply Is there any accountabilty for the police department who, on the one hand, promised Hafiz Imran all the needed help and, on the other hand, couldn't save him from their 'petty band bhais' (policemen) torture (due to vindicative attitude of their colleagues' arrest) for being 'bold'. So much so Mrs Firdaus Ashiq Awan (she is a real hypocrate) also threatened the poor journalist for his courage. every now and then we read news about 'Police Reforms', Are there any 'Reforms concerning 'Policemen's behaviour towards citizens, their courteous approach...etc ? No they hail from 'pinds' (villages) and they deal with everybody with the same parameters (considering all of them culprits). The Sialkot Murder case has in fact glimpsed the policemen's atrocities in their respective areas. When will they be domesticated into law abiding forces' personnels?

Why wont they reveal that the boys were innocent :( When questioned whether the boys were innocent or not this AIG punjab replied " I don't have anything to do with this issue my responsibility was just to arrest the people" RUBBISH.. they must have revealed something!!!!!

Facebookia | 14 years ago | Reply no no i totally hate police. i just met few sialkotis and they were trying to justify the brutal behavior saying " Ager tumharay Bhai ko koi GOLI marr day aur tum usko pakar lo toh kia karo gay* " and i told them " Ager Bura nahi keh saktay toh kam say kam ACHA toh na kaho *strong text** we are indeed a sick nation. FASI and GEORGE are partly true.

SAJJAD | 14 years ago | Reply I am ashamed for being a Pakistani. No decency, no morals, no humanity....the list is endless. Nothing will happen to the lynchers they will be free due to the corrupt system. Allah has even given up on Pakistan and it cant be blessed.

farah | 14 years ago | Reply Absolutely agreed with Mishal- whether guilty or innocent, mob lynching in the presence of the "Police" is despicable and totally un-islamic. Further its a tragedy that only with the publicity created for this case has anyone taken any real interest and action. Pak from Pakistan hangs its head in shame.

ANational | 14 years ago | Reply Unfortunately for this AIG, he is not following the SC judgment. Just read it, it is on the SCP web site, pretty clear that the Police are taking the mick.
