JAMRUD: The political administration (PA) has banned motorcycles in the Jamrud subdivision of Khyber Agency for one month due to constant attacks on Nato supply containers. The ban will be enforced from September 20 to October 20. The assistant political agent (APA) in Jamrud, Bakhtiar Mohmand, while talking to The Express Tribune said that the ban was imposed after militants riding on motorcycles attacked containers carrying Nato supplies. The ban, imposed under the Frontier Crimes Regulations, is an attempt to curb the recent surge in militancy and criminal activities in the area. Motorbikes will be confiscated and a heavy fine would be charged on anyone found riding them. The duration of the ban could be extended if needed. According to Mohmand, the previous ban on motorcyclists in Jamrud by the PA did result in a decrease in crime. Published in The Express Tribune, September 21st, 2012.
