ISLAMABAD: “Besides initiating new projects in water and hydropower sectors, completion of the under-construction projects in the shortest time is the foremost priority of the present management of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda),” said the new Wapda Chairman Raghib Abbas during his maiden address to senior officers at the Wapda house, according to a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, Abbas said that on-time completion of projects is vital in view of the increasing needs of water and electricity in the country. He directed the project authorities to expedite their efforts in completing the projects, so that their benefits could be accrued to mitigate the water and power shortfall. He said that Wapda should come up to the expectations of the people, as it deals with the two economically vital sectors of water and hydropower in the country.

Dilating upon the new projects, the chairman said that the work on Naulong, Nai Gaj, Ghabir and Kurram Tangi Dam projects - one each in Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa - is being carried on fast track basis. The consultants and the contractors are being mobilised to the sites for the purpose, he added.

Abbas, while spelling of his priorities, said that the present management will leave no stone unturned to make Wapda an engineering organisation par excellence. Any suggestion for further improvement in functioning of the authority will be valued, he said.
