Tragedies: Four drown in AJK

Four people including two children drowned in flooded streams in Haveli and Mirpur districts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Tuesday.


In Haveli, two men drowned while passing through a flooded stream in Aliabad village of Forward Kahota. A woman, Riffat Bibi, accompanying them was also swept away but was recovered by officials of Rescue 1122 and police. The deceased were identified as Matloob Hussain and Muhammad Salim, both residents of Haalen Shamali village. Rescue officials recovered the body of Hussain, while that of Salim was missing till the filing of this report.

Meanwhile in Mirpur, two children drowned in a flooded stream in New Khaliqabad town. They were identified as Adnan Yasin, 10, and Muhammad Suleman, 9. Eyewitnesses said the two were playing near the stream.

Heavy monsoon rains have claimed at least 40 lives in various areas in AJK.
